On Thursday, February 20, 2025, the city of Goma in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) buzzed with excitement as over 60 young girls gathered for a groundbreaking event: an Introduction to Blockchain Technology Workshop. Organized by Teen Girls in Blockchain Congo (TGIB) and supported by Token Mithrandir, this wasn’t just a tech lesson it was a spark for a more equitable, decentralized future. Imagine a room filled with eager faces, curiosity lighting up their eyes, as they discovered how blockchain could transform their lives and communities.
That’s exactly what happened. What started as an event expecting 50 participants from ISDR-GL Goma swelled to over 60, with students from nearby campuses like the Higher Institute of Commerce (ISC) joining in. Their enthusiasm? Contagious. Their mission? To embrace Web3 and shape a world where financial empowerment knows no gender.

Why Blockchain Matters for Goma’s Girls
In a developing country like the DRC, where opportunities can feel out of reach, blockchain technology isn’t just a buzzword it’s a lifeline. Web3, the decentralized evolution of the internet built on blockchain, promises financial platforms that don’t rely on traditional gatekeepers. For the youth of Congo, especially young girls, this means access to tools for financial independence and sustainable development.
The event aligned perfectly with Token Mithrandir’s mission: equipping young people with financial literacy and education. TGIB took it a step further, targeting girls specifically to bridge the gender gap in tech. Together, they delivered a powerful message: blockchain isn’t just for coders in Silicon Valley it’s for the future leaders of Goma, too.
The Day Unfolded: Voices, Vision, and Victory
The workshop kicked off with Faustin Mvukiyehe, a passionate volunteer in the Mithrandir ecosystem and TGIB’s fearless leader. He set the stage by introducing the driving forces behind the event:
1 Token Mithrandir: A community dedicated to education, environmental initiatives, and financial empowerment in the DRC.
2 Teen Girls in Blockchain (TGIB): A youth-led movement inspiring girls to dive into the blockchain space.

Faustin didn’t just talk at the girls he ignited their curiosity. Then, the baton passed to a stellar lineup of speakers:
• Rachel Chiza, the event’s moderator, rallied the crowd with a call to action: “Embrace blockchain for financial independence.” Her words resonated deeply with the ISDR-GL students, many of whom are already dreaming big.
• Paul Mupenda broke down the nuts and bolts of blockchain technology, making the complex feel approachable.
• Olivier Mwatsilulamo painted a vivid picture of how these girls could step into the blockchain world and uplift their communities. The room buzzed with energy during the interactive session. Hands shot up with questions sharp, thoughtful ones proving these girls weren’t just listening; they were ready to act. Topics ranged from the evolution of the web to practical ways young women can join the Web3 ecosystem. Female representation in tech? That was front and center, too.
Beyond Expectations: A Movement Takes Root
We planned for 50 attendees, but over 60 showed up proof that the hunger for knowledge transcends borders and campuses. Girls from ISC and other neighboring schools caught wind of the event and couldn’t resist joining. Their takeaway? Blockchain isn’t just a tech trend; it’s a tool to build stronger communities across the DRC and beyond. The discussions were electric. Participants didn’t shy away from tough topics like the barriers keeping girls out of emerging tech spaces, but they also embraced the hope. Speakers offered real solutions, from mentorship to hands-on learning, sparking new collaborations that could ripple through Goma’s blockchain scene.
Challenges Met, Success Won
No event is without its hiccups, but the team powered through. The result? A resounding success. The girls left inspired, armed with knowledge and connections to fuel their Web3 journey. For TGIB and Token Mithrandir, it was a milestone in their mission to drive blockchain adoption locally. The event’s real magic happened in the synergy it created. Participants swapped ideas with speakers, forging bonds that could lead to future projects. This wasn’t a one-off workshop it was the start of something bigger.
Gratitude and a Glimpse Ahead
A huge thank you goes to the Token Mithrandir community for backing this vision, to every participant for bringing their passion, and to the TGIB team for pulling it off. Special shoutout to Faustin Mvukiyehe, whose leadership made it all possible. These girls are poised to innovate, collaborate, and lead in the Web3 space. With Token Mithrandir’s continued support, we’re excited to see how their ideas reshape the DRC’s decentralized future.

For the TGIB Congo team, this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more updates as we build a Web3 community that lifts everyone up.
